Following a successful corporate career as Director of Human Resources for Bullock's Department Stores, and Management Consultant with Ernst & Young, Mr. Katz founded Human Resource Marketing Services, Inc. Under his leadership, HRMS created many innovative, technology-driven employment and recruiting services. In the early 80’s, HRMS created Video Resumes as an employment screening tool, followed by the airing of a series of half-hour, regularly scheduled, broadcast recruitment TV programs, Meet Your Next Employer. For his pioneering work in using broadcast television as a recruitment advertising tool, Richard won the SHRM (Society of Human Resource Management) Pericles Award for outstanding contribution to the human resources field. In 1993, HRMS launched its government services division, designing and managing job training programs funded by over 100 city, county, state and federal agencies. In 1998, HRMS created Dot.com Job Search, an online and classroom course on Internet job searching. In 2004, HRMS launched
www.seasonedpro.com, an online and offline service focused on strengthening the connection between alumni and their alma maters through unique and effective alumni career advancement programming. Kathryn Ullrich specializes in the recruitment of senior level executives for high technology and consulting companies. Kathy has nine years of executive search experience with her own firm and Russell Reynolds Associates. Prior to search, Kathy has fifteen years of technology experience. She was Director of Product Marketing at Siebel Systems/Scopus, responsible for the communications industry vertical. She joined Siebel from Accenture, where she did strategy consulting for technology companies. She began her career in an engineering management program with GTE and engineering assignments at Motorola.
Kathryn has an MBA with Carter Fellows honors from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. She has a BS, cum laude, in electrical engineering from University of Michigan. She is creator and moderator of the Getting to the Top career development series held with Stanford Graduate School of Business and UCLA Anderson School alumni career services. Panelist: Dan Kinzer, SVP Discrete Technology, Fairchild SemiConductor
Dan Kinzer joined the Engineering School at Princeton in the Deptartment of Aerospace and Mechanical Sciences in 1974.
After graduating from Princeton with a bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics, he joined International Rectifier in El Segundo, California in 1978. He developed many innovative products and processes at International Rectifier, a leading company in Power Semiconductors and Power Management Electronics. During his time there, he received over 60 patents and published numerous papers in conferences and trade journals. He was promoted to Director of Power Integrated Circuit Development in 1987, and then to Vice President of R&D in 1989. He held that position with varying specific responsibilities until March of 2007. At that time, he accepted an offer to join Fairchild Semiconductor, another prominent company in the field, as the Senior Vice President in charge of Product and Technology Development for the Functional Power Group. Recently, the organization has changed, and he is now responsible for Discrete Technology and Package Development, as you can see from the title below. He is something of a rare case in the semiconductor industry, having worked at one company for so long. It was quite an interesting journey, to see the company grow and evolve from less than $100M to over $1.3B, mostly on the strength of products that he led in development. Now he is enjoying working at a company that was once a competitor, and is rapidly learning the inner workings of an entirely different enterprise. He has also been involved in the organization of several trade conferences, and been the General Chairman of the International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and Integrated Circuits, which is a leading technical forum in his field. As a member of the rowing team during college, he won a National Championship Medal in fours in 1977 and second place in eights in 1976.

During a thirty-five year career, Dick Knowdell established one of America's first successful corporate career development programs, instituted an internal employee assistance program, directed a Silicon Valley corporate training and employee development department, established an executive outplacement consulting firm and served as an executive coach. While a continuation of business as usual energy choices will result in socially, politically, and environmentally costly and destructive climate change, the motivation to invest in solutions to climate change can be simply that a green economy can also be exceedingly vibrant. In fact, an economy built around a suite of low-carbon technologies can be resistant to price shocks as well as secure against supply disruptions as well as inclusive of diverse socioeconomic groups. A new wave of job growth – both ‘high technology’ and ones that transform ‘blue collar labor’ into ‘green collar’ opportunities. Here from Dr. Kammen who wrote the book on the subject, "Putting Renewable to Work: How Many Jobs Can the Clean Energy Industry Generate?" Daniel M. Kammen is the a Distinguished Professor of Energy at the University of California, Berkeley, where he holds appointments in the Energy and Resources Group, the Goldman School of Public Policy, and the department of Nuclear Engineering. Kammen is the founding director of the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL). Kammen is also the Co-Director of the Berkeley Institute of the Environment. Kammen received his undergraduate (Cornell A., B. ’84) and graduate (Harvard M. A. ’86, Ph.D. ’88) training is in physics After postdoctoral work at Caltech and Harvard, Kammen was professor and Chair of the Science, Technology and Environmental Policy at Princeton University in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs from 1993 – 1998. He then moved to UC Berkeley. Kammen works with roughly 20 doctoral students on a wide range of science, engineering, economics and policy projects related to energy science, engineering and the environment. Kammen has published five books, over 200 journal articles and 30 research reports. Daniel Kammen serves on the National Advisory Board of the Union of Concerned Scientists, on the Technical Review Board of the Global Environment Facility is on the advisory board of the Union of Concerned Scientists, and was a coordinating lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. In 1998 was elected a Permanent Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences. In February, 2007, Kammen received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Commonwealth Club of California. In February, 2007, Kammen received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Commonwealth Club of California. This is the 19th time the Club has honored individuals who have made significant and enduring contributions to the Bay Area and California community, and who embody the principles and values of The Commonwealth Club.

Linda Paul joined Meetup.com as the Director of Human Resource Development in January 2007 where she started up and continues to build the HR function at this rapidly growing 5-year old internet company. Prior to that she spent 5 years as Senior Human Resources Manager at Scholastic, Inc., the children’s publishing and media company, where she supported the internet, technology, entertainment and international divisions. Before that she worked in the financial services industry at Lehman Brothers and then Morgan Stanley as Assistant Vice President of Human Resources. In 2000, Linda received the Women of Achievement Award from the office of Mayor Giuliani for the work she did in successfully providing more than 50 women on welfare the opportunity to turn their lives around with jobs at Morgan Stanley. Linda graduated Summa Cum Laude as a Thomas W. Smith Fellow from the City University of New York Baccalaureate Program with a BS in Human Resource Management and holds her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification.
Panelist: Sue Gershenson, Regional Recruiter, Peace Corps
A native of Detroit and long-time resident of the Bay Area, Sue received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Masters of Social Work from the University of California Berkeley and her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
In her first career, Sue was a social worker specializing in crisis intervention and domestic violence. In her second career, she worked as an internal and external management, human resource and organization development consultant to government, for-profit and non-profit organizations. After completing law school, Sue participated in a law reform project in Cambodia where she trained law teachers and taught law. She later served as Director of Alternative Dispute Resolution for the San Francisco Superior Court and Human Resources Manager for a public interest law firm. Sue recently completed work on a project recording the oral histories of elderly Tibetans living in exile in India.
Sue served as Peace Corps Volunteer in Nepal from 2000-2002 and currently works as a recruiter in the San Francisco Regional Office of the Peace Corps. Her focus is recruiting volunteers over the age of 50 for Peace Corps service.

Before joining Employers Group, Mark was the Associate Dean of the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California (USC) for three years, leading many efforts from external affairs, development and executive education, including developing customized solutions for companies to help meet the critical needs of their employees and executives. Prior to USC, Mark was a Partner in Advanced Technology and Strategy at Arthur Andersen Business Consulting, developing revenue improvement solutions for clients across the U.S., Asia and Europe.

Ron led major human resource consulting firm practices in helping organizations improve workforce and leadership effectiveness and senior executives in transition, and has held senior leadership positions in various other sectors. Ron and his co-author were awarded the Walker Prize by the Human Resource Planning Society for the paper that best advances state-of-the-art thinking or practices in human resources. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Cambridge University, an M.A.in Career Development from John F. Heckart assumed her current position with Microsoft in July 2005 and is responsible for worldwide marketing, partnership and ecosystem management for the TV division at Microsoft. In her role, she manages teams responsible for supporting content owners, application developers, and hardware manufacturers as well as the marketing team’s at network operators, as they create and launch new digital TV products, services and applications over IP networks. The Microsoft Mediaroom ingredient brand was developed and launched in 2007 to drive awareness and preference for these Microsoft-based services. More than 1 million consumers worldwide enjoy Mediaroom-based services as of early 2008 and growing at 2 new customers every minute.
In previous roles, Heckart was vice president of worldwide marketing for Juniper Networks from 2002 – 2005. She may be most remembered for the innovative rebranding of the company using humorous ads where cartoons characters reminiscent of the Far Side deliver poignant and pointed messages about the trials and tribulations of life on the Net with and without Juniper Networks. From 1994-2002 Heckart worked for and eventually lead consulting firm TeleChoice Inc., providing business and marketing support to create and grow new markets for data networking products and services globally. Heckart started her career as a product manager at WilTel, where she defined and launched ATM, frame relay, VPN and internetworking services from 1988-1994
Heckart is the author of “The Guide to Frame Relay Networking” and co-author of “ATM for Dummies.” An acknowledged industry thought leader, Heckart was named one of Network World’s “Top 10 Power Thinkers” and one of the “50 Most Powerful People in the Industry.”
She graduated with high honors from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1988 with a degree in economics. She currently resides in California with her husband and three children where she paints and reads in the surprisingly few moments she isn’t working or being a Mom.

Dr. Henry Tirri is Research Fellow and Head of System Research Centers (SRC), Nokia Research Center, Nokia’s corporate research unit. Interacting closely with all Nokia business groups,, Nokia Research Center is responsible for the strategic and long-term research in Nokia. Henry is responsible for the research at the Systems Research Centers which strive for disruptive systems research with open innovation collaboration globally. SRCs thrive to enable new business opportunities for Nokia by extending the traditional Nokia realm of research, with strong relations to and a strong presence in world leading innovation ecosystems.
Henry joined Nokia in 2004 as Research Fellow at Software and Applications Laboratory. He holds Ph.D. in Computer Science from Unioversity of Helsinki, Finland. He is also a Professor of Computer Science at the Univeristy of Helsinki and an Adjunct Professor of Computational Engineering at the Helsinki University of Technology. His interests lie in various subfields of Artificial Intelligence, information theory, search technologies and wireless sensor networks.
Henry has extensive experience in running both research activities in the fields of intelligent systems and networking. Before joining Nokia he was the Head of Graduate School at University of Helsinki, Head of Intelligent Systems Laboratory and was leading a large world-class research group in probabilistic modeling. He has held various positions of Research Scientist at MCC, MTS at At&T Bell Laboratories, Visiting Associate Professor at Purdue University, Visiting Sicentist at NASA AMES, Visiting Professor at Stanford University and UC Berkeley, and Vice President of Scientific Operations and Co-Founder of Ekahau.
Henry is the author and co-author of more tha 170 academic papers in various fields of Computer Science, Social Sciences and Statistics. He has five patents.

Barbara A. Caulfield, J.D., is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Directors for Affymetrix Inc. in Santa Clara, California. Judge Caulfield joined Affymetrix in July 2001. From 1991 to 1994, she served as United States District Judge for the Northern District of California. She has litigated cases for over 30 years.
Judge Caulfield received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago. She has held professorships at the University of Oregon Law School and the University of California, Hastings Law School. In addition to representing Affymetrix, she has litigation experience representing such companies as Microsoft Corporation, Hoffmann-LaRoche, Apple Computer and Mobil Oil Corporation.
Judge Caulfield is a certified member of the National Patent Board, a member of the Committee on Complex Litigation for the American Law Institute.
